The Southington Police Department was organized in 1936. It is governed by a Board of Police Commissioners, consisting of five (5) civilian members. The Southington Police Department is commanded by the Chief John F. Daly, and consists of a Deputy Chief, three (3) Lieutenants, five (5) Master Sergeants, nine (9) Sergeants, seven (7) Detectives, thirty-eight (38) Patrol Officers, two (2) Animal Control Officers, twelve (12) 911 Dispatchers, two (2) Part-Time 911 Dispatchers, four (4) Records Clerks, one (1) Administrative Assistant, one (1) Information Technology Civilian Employee, and one (1) Custodian.
The Mission of the Southington Police Department is to protect and serve the community, enforce laws and ordinances, provide information and/or direction to people in need and to promote a feeling of safety and security for all members of the community. The Southington Police Department will work in cooperation with the community to preserve and improve the quality of life, making the Town a safer, more pleasant place to live, work and visit.
The Southington Police Department’s Mission is providing quality law enforcement services to the Town of Southington, Connecticut. The mission is achieved through concept of continuous improvement by using quality performance management. Members are expected to work consistently in a quality manner in the daily performance of those duties, job responsibilities and work tasks associated with the department’s mission. Quality Manner means; that performance outcomes comply with the performance standards established by the Southington Police Department and for each member associated with the Department. Examples of performance standards are found in all Southington Police Department General Orders and Department Directives. It is critical that all members understand, accept and be aligned with the responsibilities established by the Mission Statement. It provides the foundation upon which all operational decisions and organizational directives will be based.

Patrolman Timothy Foley was struck by a vehicle and died from his injuries six days later.
Patrolman Foley started his law enforcement career as a Constable for Southington, Connecticut serving 35 years before the Police Department was organized. He served an additional 11 years with the Southington Police Department.
